Hello and let me re-introduce myself!
I have ran my TPT/Insta as Fun in Functional Education for the past 3 years. I chose that name because I have a passion for teaching functional skills to all learners of all ability levels. While that passion has not changed, my teaching style, abilities, and focus has!
As I changed districts this past year, I realized that although teaching functional skills in the severe/profound setting was one of my life’s goals (honestly I never dreaded a single day of work), I also truly enjoy making curriculum and standards accessible for all!
One of my first experiences in this was in my second year teaching when (my amazing para) and I modified an ENTIRE 6th grade history textbook, BY HAND. I realized that there simply were not enough resources built on modified grade level texts. Ding Ding! I could help with that!
While many of my resources were (and are) geared towards helping children with special needs obtain the functional life skills they need in order to grow to be successful adults, I started to shift to focus on creating more of what I am ACTUALLY using to modify my general education curriculum for my students. My Students need to be held to the same standards as the rest of the population, even if the standards are slightly modified 😉 No free passes here!
Why Simple SpEd Solutions?
As I made this change I decided to undergo the big task of Rebranding (which I quickly learned is no quick feat). But I felt that it was important that my ‘brand’ and blog reflect what I am trying to accomplish here, which is to create high quality resources and blog posts to help create simple solutions to any SpEd problem! Simple is always the best, and usually the most overlooked way to overcome problems in the teaching world. In SpEd, we want long lasting SOLUTIONS, not just one time fixes.
I hope you continue to join me on this journey in the educational world and as we navigate these crazy times!
